What’s Kinon?

My name is Kinon
Searching for and meeting new sounds in the town of Hachioji
I will embark on a 10-year journey while wearing it

The journey is a series of miracles
Through the blessings of the land, the stories that can only be found there, and the encounters with people
Discover new sounds
Sometimes like a cute plaything
Sometimes it becomes a dazzling sculpture and makes a sound
We will continue to grow together with Companions, while enjoying the moment when everyone shines

While leaving a mark of sound
Surrounded by everyone's smiles
On his 10th birthday, may the city be enveloped in sound

Project Overview

Started as part of the Hachioji Arts Project, Tomoo Nagai, a musician and percussionist living in Hachioji, Tokyo, is a 10-year project to search for the sound of Hachioji.
Together with the Hachioji Art Festival, the festival will tour the target areas of the city every two years (starting in 2022).
With the cooperation of local people, Tomoo Nagai collects materials from each Hachioji region, such as wood, iron, silk thread, and scrap wood, and creates musical instruments from them. These instruments are used as "acoustic sculptures" (musical instruments) to deliver sound to people through live performances and workshops. In addition, the newly composed and recorded sound sources will be used for sound design, such as in-house music for public facilities in the city, and will be returned to the town of Hachioji as "Kinon's sprinkled sound". We also aim to spread the sounds born from Hachioji, such as music for movies and stages, and overseas developments, beyond the ocean.
